FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 11, 2013, Vancouver, B.C. – Zero Emission Energy Developments (ZED) today announced that a memorandum of understanding (MOU) has been signed with REpower Systems Inc. (REpower) for the supply of wind turbines for each of ZED’s five wind power generation projects across British Columbia.
The MOU signing occurs after an eight-month competitive procurement process conducted by KPMG LLP and HATCH Ltd. to select a preferred wind turbine supplier for ZED’s wind power generation projects.
“This is a significant milestone for ZED because it brings each of our projects one step closer to commercial operation,” noted ZED President and Chief Executive Officer Alastair King from the Canadian Wind Energy Association conference in Vancouver. “During construction and operation, these projects will provide significant economic benefits to B.C.’s economy, but more importantly, they will continue to reaffirm the province’s commitment to low-impact, clean energy power generation.”
“We are very pleased to have been selected by ZED for these projects across British Columbia,” stated Helmut Herold, CEO and Managing Director of REpower Systems Inc. “This marks our entry into western Canada after successes in Ontario and Quebec. We look forward to building a longstanding partnership with ZED and providing them with the very best in German high-quality wind technology and know-how.”
ZED’s projects are located on Crown Land – one in the Peace River Regional District and the other four further south in the Thompson-Nicola and Okanagan-Similkameen Regional Districts. Each project has a nameplate capacity of 15 megawatts (MW) for a total rated output of 75 MW. ZED anticipates construction of these projects will begin in Q4 2013.
